The Mastic Beach Fire Department received an alarm around 11:30
P.M. for a signal 13 at Shakers Pub on Neighborhood Road and Cranberry Drive.
The first on scene was fire Chief Pantanella who upon arrival
reported that smoke was showing. The second to get on scene was Chief McGown who
radioed to fire headquarters for unit two to respond as soon as it had it's fire
crew.
Fire Chief Biondi arrived on scene shortly after Chief McGown
and radioed to county control requesting a signal 3 for additional man
power for a working fire. Chief Biondi also requested that county control page
out Mastic Fire Department and Brookhaven Fire Department for a signal 24 to the
scene for a signal 13/35.
Chief Biondi asked county control to start Lipa Electric,
Brookhaven Fire Marshall and Suffolk County Arson to the scene.
The departments at the scene were Mastic Beach Fire with units
2, 9, 3, 7 and unit 1 the 100 foot bucket truck that was used to get to the roof
to ventilate the heavy smoke from the building. Mastic Fire Dept had their
pumper at the scene with additional man power and Brookhaven had their pumper
and bucket trucks on scene with more men to fight the fire inside the bar.
The temp at the time was some where around 10 degrees and the
water from fighting the fire was freezing as it fell to the ground.
The fire was in an over head crawl space located above the bar
area and fireman had to get up into the space with a hose line to extinguish the
fire that is under investigation by County Arson Squad.
